Interlibrary loans: Arrival time and loan extensions

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a service whereby a user from one library can borrow books or receive photocopies from another library

Arrival time for ILL

Articles usually arrive within a few days but can take longer. Articles are sent to employees of the University of Iceland via internal mail but everbody else must collect articles at the service desk on the 2nd floor.

Note, because of copyright restrictions, we cannot transmit articles electronically.

Books from other Icelandic libraries usually arrive within a few days, but books from the Nordic countries arrive after 1-2 weeks. Arrival time for books from other international libraries can be 3-4 weeks. All patrons must collect ILL books at the service desk on the 2nd floor.

When material arrives, patrons get a notification by email.

Loan extensions

Patrons have to ask the staff of the ILL department for loan extensions, by sending an email to millisafnalan@landsbokasafn.is.

We can't promise an extension but we will always check at the library that holds the book.
