Halldór Laxness

Bronze bust of Halldór Laxness (1902-1998) by the Norwegian artist Nils Aas (1933-2004).

First unveiled in an assembly held in commemoration of the seventieth anniversary of the publication of Laxness´s first book, Barn náttúrunnar (Children of Nature), (1989).

Portrait by Nína Tryggvadóttir (1913-1968), 1942, of Halldór Kiljan Laxness (1902-1998) who was awarded the Nobel Prize for literature in 1955 "for his vivid epic power which has renewed the great narrative art of Iceland" (1942).

Bríet Bjarnhéðinsdóttir

Bríet Bjarnhéðinsdóttir was well known for her battle for womens´ rights.

Hafsteinn Guðmundsson was a productive printer, publisher and designer of books.

Benedikt Þórarinsson

Benedikt Þórarinsson was a merchant and an ardent book collector whose books are conserved in the library.

Halldór Hermannsson was a librarian at the Fiske collection of Icelandic material and a Professor of Old Norse Studies at Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y.
